I feel the standard that I will be able encompass is number 1: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity. This standard entails that the teachers be creative in teaching and creating learning experiences both in the classroom and in the virtual environments. To complete this standard, as a teacher, we must be able to fulfill the following:
a. Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness.
b. Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.
c. Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.
d. Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments.
I have always been a creative and crafty person. I love art, activities, dancing, teamwork, and leading by example. I believe that because I am also a very visual and kinesthetic learner myself, I am able to understand how children may learn. There are many different types of learners and as teachers it is our job to be able to create lesson plans that can teach all of them equally. I love history and part of this is understanding and exploring real-world issues. In my future studies/lesson plans I will try to incorporate this and help the students understand the need for solving problems using resources.
In one of my other education classes (350) we did personality/learning style tests that basically told us what kind of a learner we are based off of various questions about how we would react in certain situations. The way that I answered my questions told me that my two main "favorite" ways of learning are Visual and Kinesthetic. I feel I have always known I was a visual learner and I thrive when I am hands-on or doing things myself; this is the best way I learn. In order to help our future students learn, it is important that we promote student reflection and understand each of their indivual needs as well as thinking, creative, and planning processes. I think I will excel in completing this standard because I have a learning style that benefits me with learning through creativity and inspiration.
Thank you for reading, I hope it helped explain this standard as well as give insight into my personal learning/teaching processes.

Hi, Brianna! I enjoyed reading your blog and about standard 1 of NETS-T! That is so wonderful you were able to take a test and see what your top learning styles are. As teachers, it is crucial to understand the different learning styles that are present in the classroom. The best place to start understanding what defines these learning styles as separate from each other is by looking at our own first. Once we see how our learning styles affect us it will become easier to analyze how children in the classroom learn best. We can do this by putting into practice what we have learned from studying our own learning style. Creativity is also a huge role in how to teaching to all of these different kinds of learners. Without it students will be left out and fall behind because they lost interest in what was being taught.
ReplyDeleteGreat work, Brianna! I cannot wait to read more of what you have to say!
Hi Brianna,
ReplyDeleteYour post was very interesting. You explained standard 1 very well. I got a lot of information our of your post that I did not get out of the Nets-T reading.
I give you props for being hands on and crafty. I rather make it neat and colorful by using the computer. I think I may need to start being more hands on because that is a better way to learn!
Thanks for the great post!
Hey Brianna,
ReplyDeleteI really like the fact that you brought up that there are different types of learning styles. Also that every child has individual needs, I think it is great that you are already thinking of ways to let them express themselves!
Brianna,
ReplyDeleteI like how you discussed your strengths and talked about how every student learns in a different way. This is a very good concept to understand, because it is very important for all teachers to reach each of their students. Just by looking at your blog, I can tell that you are a creative person. This was a very interesting blog entry and made a lot of excellent points!
Brianna,
ReplyDeleteI join you in a passion for being a creative and crafty person, I think that is why I will enjoy being an elementary teacher. An awareness of not only your own personal learning style but also your understanding that there are different types of learners is something that will set you apart from other teachers. I also find myself as a visual learner and it can be challenging to cater to other learning styles that you may not understand. Striving to do your best is a great quality.
I love how through the use of technology in the classroom, there are endless possibilities of growth and creativity for students. I believe that this kind of learning can cater to many different learning styles so it truly is a fabulous resource!
I accidentally forgot to add the part with two resources relating to my standard! My standard is about facilitating and inspiring student learning and creativity. I found a great site called ESL Teaching and Technology which includes multiple other sites you can choose from the main page to search in. It also gives students the opportunity to experience/search for real-world issues through digital tools and resources. My second resource is Boothbay Technology and Professional Development. This site allows teachers to use their own knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate and advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Both websites are extremely helpful for encompassing NETS standard 1. I hope you enjoyed my blog and resources!
